Life is a lot like Dodge ball
Life is a lot like dodge ball - that perfect sociological experiment designed as a kid's game. Stay with me here. Dodge ball requires many sociological inputs and provides instant feedback to those inputs - how cool. These inputs start with picking those who will participate, you want a cross section - those who will be able to get out of the way and those who will not be able to get out of the way. Also, social standing within your peer group plays into it as well. Once the group is chosen, one person who has the ball will systematically decide who to target based on their "read" of that person. Specifically, how athletic are they? Will this person get angry and target me when they have the ball? Is that my best friend? etc. Now the targeting begins - some who are hit will laugh, some who are hit will get angry and retailiate and some who are hit will cry and run away. So, how does this apply to life? We all have social standing at work, in our social groups and in our personal relationships. We all have situations in those groups where we are in the dodge ball circle looking at the person who has the power (the dodgeball) and we are hoping that we are not a target of that person. If we are a target - do we laugh when it? do we cry and run away? or do we exact revenge? Certainly when we have the power (the dodge ball) we can justify our reason but is it the right reason? having fun in a game - the game of life or are we plotting and masterminding with an agenda? Separating those who are with us or against us? Getting hit in the crotch is not fun but look around - it is funny to those in the group and you will be in that group at some time laughing at someone else's pain. So, how do you react? Is it you against the world? or you with the world?
